FLOOR CLASS
Compression-Based Barefoot Work on the Floor or Low Table
This class is an exploration of compression-forward barefoot massage designed to be done on the floor, on a mat, or on a table lowered completely to the floor.
All work is fully clothed, requires minimal equipment, and emphasizes deep, sustained, rhythmic pressure with less strain on the therapist’s body.
Floor Class is practical, grounded, and immediately usable.
Whether you’re barefoot-curious or already practicing ashiatsu, this class gives you a new way to think about pressure, effort, and how deep work actually lands in the body.
What makes this class different
This is not Thai massage.
This is not chair massage.
And it’s not a watered-down version of table work.
Floor Class focuses on compression as primary work, not as a transition or filler technique. Using mostly the feet (with some hands), you’ll learn how to offer pressure that is deep, steady, and regulating without forcing tissue or burning out your body.
The floor allows for:
Better ergonomics
More efficient use of body weight
Sustained pressure that feels grounding rather than aggressive
The result is work that feels deep, calm, and surprisingly effortless.
What you’ll learn
This is a full-session class, not a collection of random techniques.
You’ll learn:
Bilateral and unilateral compression patterns
Rhythmic rocking and sustained pressure
One pin-and-stretch move you’ll wonder how you lived without
How to structure a complete, cohesive session
Everything taught in this class can be used immediately in practice and translated across settings.
Who this class is for
This class is open to licensed massage therapists and massage students who are actively enrolled and nearing licensure.
It’s especially well suited for:
Hands-on Therapists curious about barefoot work but not ready for bars
Therapists wanting deeper pressure with less physical effort
Practicing ashi therapists looking to expand their skill set
No prior barefoot experience is required.
Equipment & setup
One of the strengths of this work is its simplicity.
All you need is:
A floor mat or a massage table lowered completely to the floor
Pillows or bolsters for client comfort
A folding chair (used for seated techniques and balance support)
The space required is comparable to a standard massage room.
Client experience
Clients remain fully clothed for this work, which can feel more accessible and less intimidating for some people, especially those new to massage or unsure about undressing.
Sessions are often described as:
Deep without being overwhelming
Calming and energizing at the same time
Grounding, supportive, and settling
Compression allows for sustained contact that gives the nervous system time to register safety, which often changes how deeply the body is willing to release.
Why compression matters
Compression is one of the most underutilized tools in massage therapy.
When applied with intention and rhythm, compression:
Encourages nervous system downregulation
Supports circulation and tissue hydration
Allows deep pressure without forcing
In this class, compression isn’t an add-on.
It’s the foundation.
Real-world applications
Floor work is incredibly versatile and travels well.
This approach has been used successfully in:
On-site sessions at medical facilities
Wellness days for active populations
Situations where bar setups aren’t practical
It offers an alternative to chair massage for hands-on therapists and a mobile option for barefoot therapists without sacrificing depth or quality.
What students usually walk away with
Students often leave feeling:
Surprised by how easy deep work can feel
Confident offering compression-based sessions
Excited about barefoot work in a new way
Connected to the other therapists in the room
Many find themselves ready to integrate this work immediately or continue on with additional training.
